1. What Is USACO?

USACO, the USA Computing Olympiad, is an online programming competition for pre-college students.   • Platinum-division competitors were reset to Gold at the start of the season, a practice the organizers say they may continue.
  • Invitations to the proctored US Open, based on the online contests, were the main basis for training-camp selection.

Promotion works by score: clear the promotion cutoff for a given contest and you move up to the next division for future contests. The cutoff varies from contest to contest (in recent seasons the monthly contests have mostly landed around 650-750 out of 1000). A perfect score of 1000 can trigger an immediate promotion within the same contest window. Promotions have traditionally carried over from one season to the next, though the policy can change — for 2025-26, Platinum competitors were reset to Gold at the start of the season.
